Professional Tree Stump Removal

Expert Stump Grinding

Tree stumps are unsightly and detract from the value of your property. They take up space you could use for other landscaping or recreation. They also make it harder to mow and maintain the rest of your yard.

Our arborists are stump removal experts, turning an eyesore into a place to plant or play. After we remove a tree we grind the stump and fill the space with topsoil or wood chips. The deep roots of the tree naturally decompose beneath the surface.

Do you have stumps from previous tree removals? Give us a call or complete the form below and we’ll come out for a free consultation and promptly get you a quote to get rid of them.

Why Use a Tree Service Expert for Stump Removal?

A tree stump might  look unassuming. It’s not pretty, and it’s in the way, but from above it doesn’t look too complicated.

But that stump once supported an entire tree. Large hardwood trees can weigh 10 tons. The underground structure doesn’t go away when the tree comes down. There is a formidable system of trunk and roots beneath the surface.

If you try and pull out a stump with your car like they do on TV, all you’re likely to remove is your bumper. Stump grinding is a job for professionals.

How Professional Tree Stump Removal Works

Stump grinding is the process of using a specialized machine operated by professionals to grind the stump down into small pieces. Our machine has a sharp rotating blade that spins at a high speed, chipping away at the wood until the stump is six inches below the surrounding area.

Our experienced arborists are careful to leave as little evidence of our equipment as possible. We haul away the stump pieces at no extra charge and thoroughly clean up the entire area.

Frequently Asked Stump Removal Questions

Do I have to remove the stump of a tree that is cut down?

No, you don’t. If you like the appearance, you can choose to keep the stump. You should be aware, however, that a stump can pose some unexpected challenges.

  • A decaying stump becomes home to insects and pathogens. Termites, carpenter ants, fungus, and more that take up residence in a stump can move to other trees and plants and to your home.

  • If you’ve had a tree removed because of disease, leaving the stump may allow the disease to spread to surrounding trees. Be particularly careful with oak stumps.

  • Invasive species can sprout from a stump. They look bad and can be difficult and costly to remove. Your stump might even sprout a new tree, one likely to be structurally weak from the outset.

  • Roots might continue to grow under an intact tree stump. They can cause trouble with underground cables, the foundation of your home, nearby pavement, and other landscaping.

Is stump removal free?

Removing tree stumps is a labor-intensive and precise process. If you choose to have both a tree and a stump removed, there is an additional cost. If you just need stumps removed, we’ll come out for a free consultation.

Can I grind a stump myself?

You can rent small stump grinders, but we do not recommend this as a DIY project. The blades are powerful and sharp and the process throws pieces of wood and other debris.

We have a larger, professional-grade stump grinder that can be used on stumps of any size. You cannot rent these and for the safety of the operator they should only be used by a professional.
